>While I was “away…”

>I’ve started boycotting television news coverage of the presidential race. Why? Well, I believe I’m not getting a damn thing from hearing about the latest horse race or the latest poll numbers.

I’m tired of hearing about Sens. Obama, Clinton and McCain’s daily attacks upon each other. I’m sick of broadcast media ignoring the issues that affect me.

So, for now on, I will get my political news coverage from online or the print media. It’s really sad when a political junkie like myself has become burnt out over broadcast media coverage of the campaigns.

Has anyone else thought of trying this out?

>Rev. James Orange, civil rights activist, dies

I tried to find a better picture of him, but was unsuccessful. Here he is with the Rev. Joseph Lowery, right, at a civil rights event in Atlanta in 2004 (photo courtesy of W.A. Bridges Jr/Atlanta Journal-Constitution).

You can read more about him here. It’s always sad to hear about the passing of people who fought for justice in this country. Yet, I’m always intrigued by their dedication and their sacrifices.

>24 hour news coverage taking it’s toll

>No, I’m not dead or MIA. I’ve just been busy with life. I’m starting to notice a trend with myself: I’m becoming disgusted at the media coverage of this presidential campaign for a few reasons:

1. Instead of taking a closer look at the issues, the media has continued to focus on the horse race aspect of the presidential race: who’s up or down in the polls, who’s feuding with who, etc.

2. The continuous coverage. It’s becoming too much for me. I can’t even watch the news without seeing a recap of news from the campaign trail and the so-called media “analysis” (more like opinion) every 15 minutes.

For now on, I will get all my news from the presidential race from credited online news sources and from the print media. No more network/cable news shows.

>Relaxation

>The newspaper I work for only publishes five days a week, Wednesday through Sunday. So, Tuesdays are particularly stressful because we are literally scrambling to get the Wednesday issue out. Today, I had a particular stressful day because I was writing two stories concerning Woodstock’s tax allocation district (TAD).

That same city also named its top three candidates for its city manager position. Today was particularly stressful because I missed turned my stories in one hour later than our 4 p.m. deadline.

Now, I’ve been unwinding for about one hour with a big glass of wine and some chicken stir fry my room mate made.

What do you do to unwind after a long, stressful day?
