Who am I?

A twenty-something black woman fed up with the degradation and subjugation black women are faced with each day. It's time we stand up and demand better. It's time for a revolution!

My short skirt
My short skirt is not an invitation
a provocation an indication that I want it
or give it or that I hook.My short skirt is not begging for it
It does not want you to rip it off me or pull it down.My short skirt is not a legal reason for raping me,
although it has been before it will not hold up in the new court. My short skirt, believe it or not has nothing to do with you.
I’m black and I’m proud
They take my kindness for. . . . . WEAKNESS.
They take my silence for. . . . . SPEECHLESS.
They consider my uniqueness. . . . . STRANGE.
They call my language. . . . . . SLANG.
They see my confidence as. . . . . CONCEIT.
They see my mistakes as. . . . . DEFEAT.
They consider my success. . . . . ACCIDENTAL.
They minimize my intelligence to. . . . . POTENTIAL.
My questions mean I am. . . . . UNAWARE.
My advancement is somehow. . . . . UNFAIR.
To voice concern is. . . . . DISCONTENTMENT.
If I stand up for myself I am too. . . . . DEFENSIVE.
If I don't trust them I am too. . . . . APPREHENSIVE.
I am defiant if I. . . . . SEPARATE.
I am fake if I. . . . . ASSIMILATE.
My character is constantly. . . . . UNDER ATTACK.
Pride for my race makes me. . . . .TOO BLACK.Because we just can’t trust politicians!
What is a liberal?
If by a "Liberal" they [opponents] mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal." ~JFKArchives

“I am not Trayvon Martin”
Finally! At least one white person is well on their way of understanding whiteness and white privilege and how both operate to suppress and subjugated people of color. Of course, some folks are pushing back against the video’s message. The … (More…)
White people: check your privilege when talking about the Trayvon Martin tragedy
On Monday morning, I did a status update on my personal Facebook profile that said: “White privilege: being able to shoot an unarmed teenager and not be arrested and/or charged with a crime.” Two friends of mine, both of which … (More…)
Do I look suspicious?
A NEWMecca Movement Production has partnered with a few Howard University students to produce this video, which criticizes the use of racial profiling. The Howard University students have a Facebook group, Howard Students for Justice, they are using to spread … (More…)
Cartoon shows President Barack Obama using Trayvon Martin for political gain
The above cartoon was posted at Townhall.com, and depicts President Barack Obama using the murder of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin for political gain. To be sure, this isn’t the first time this lazy political cartoonist has exploited conservative feelings about race … (More…)
“I’m not used to your hair being like that. It reminds me of Angela Davis.”
Black women who choose to wear their hair in its natural state have heard it all, from being accused of fighting against whiteness’ subjugation to just following yet another fashion statement. We’ve been reduced to marginalized pets, with people wanting … (More…)
