Who am I?

A twenty-something black woman fed up with the degradation and subjugation black women are faced with each day. It's time we stand up and demand better. It's time for a revolution!

My short skirt
My short skirt is not an invitation
a provocation an indication that I want it
or give it or that I hook.My short skirt is not begging for it
It does not want you to rip it off me or pull it down.My short skirt is not a legal reason for raping me,
although it has been before it will not hold up in the new court. My short skirt, believe it or not has nothing to do with you.
I’m black and I’m proud
They take my kindness for. . . . . WEAKNESS.
They take my silence for. . . . . SPEECHLESS.
They consider my uniqueness. . . . . STRANGE.
They call my language. . . . . . SLANG.
They see my confidence as. . . . . CONCEIT.
They see my mistakes as. . . . . DEFEAT.
They consider my success. . . . . ACCIDENTAL.
They minimize my intelligence to. . . . . POTENTIAL.
My questions mean I am. . . . . UNAWARE.
My advancement is somehow. . . . . UNFAIR.
To voice concern is. . . . . DISCONTENTMENT.
If I stand up for myself I am too. . . . . DEFENSIVE.
If I don't trust them I am too. . . . . APPREHENSIVE.
I am defiant if I. . . . . SEPARATE.
I am fake if I. . . . . ASSIMILATE.
My character is constantly. . . . . UNDER ATTACK.
Pride for my race makes me. . . . .TOO BLACK.Because we just can’t trust politicians!
What is a liberal?
If by a "Liberal" they [opponents] mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal." ~JFKArchives

Yes, race is still a factor four years later
I love when news stories like this come up in traditional news publications. Not only are they mostly superficial and lacking in real deduction of the issue of race, they also reinforce what many black folks have already known: there … (More…)
So, how about that post-racial America?
Since people still like to believe we are in some form of post-racial utopia as we’ve elected a black president, some folks just aren’t convinced. From Fox 5 Atlanta: Residents are upset about a sign in Paulding County that uses … (More…)
Glenn Grothman: money is more important to men
The battle over the hearts and minds of women continue as Republicans continue to put their feet into their mouths. This latest incident of this nonsense came from a Wisconsin state senator, who criticized the state’s now repealed equal pay … (More…)
Trayvon Martin and The Fear in a Black Mother’s Heart
Editor’s note: The following post is from Renee at Womanist Musings, which discusses the impact of the tragic, racist murder of Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-0ld unarmed black teenager, on her as a mother of two young black boys. Please bear with … (More…)
In 2012, women’s emotions, birth control remain controversial
Apparently, women’s emotions may not be in the “best interest” of combat missions, according to Rick Santorum. Politico has a transcript of what Santorum responded to when CNN’s John King asked him how he feels about women on the front … (More…)
