Who am I?

A twenty-something black woman fed up with the degradation and subjugation black women are faced with each day. It's time we stand up and demand better. It's time for a revolution!

My short skirt
My short skirt is not an invitation
a provocation an indication that I want it
or give it or that I hook.My short skirt is not begging for it
It does not want you to rip it off me or pull it down.My short skirt is not a legal reason for raping me,
although it has been before it will not hold up in the new court. My short skirt, believe it or not has nothing to do with you.
I’m black and I’m proud
They take my kindness for. . . . . WEAKNESS.
They take my silence for. . . . . SPEECHLESS.
They consider my uniqueness. . . . . STRANGE.
They call my language. . . . . . SLANG.
They see my confidence as. . . . . CONCEIT.
They see my mistakes as. . . . . DEFEAT.
They consider my success. . . . . ACCIDENTAL.
They minimize my intelligence to. . . . . POTENTIAL.
My questions mean I am. . . . . UNAWARE.
My advancement is somehow. . . . . UNFAIR.
To voice concern is. . . . . DISCONTENTMENT.
If I stand up for myself I am too. . . . . DEFENSIVE.
If I don't trust them I am too. . . . . APPREHENSIVE.
I am defiant if I. . . . . SEPARATE.
I am fake if I. . . . . ASSIMILATE.
My character is constantly. . . . . UNDER ATTACK.
Pride for my race makes me. . . . .TOO BLACK.Because we just can’t trust politicians!
What is a liberal?
If by a "Liberal" they [opponents] mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal." ~JFKArchives

Ghana MP’s call to arrest gays part of anti-GLBTQ trend in some African nations
This is a sad, yet an all-too-realistic theme coming from some countries in Africa. Ghana is the latest country to “throw the book” at some of its GLBTQ citizens. The country’s western region minister issued a call to arrest all … (More…)
Gutfeld: free birth control plan by left “eradicates the poor”
Don’t you just love when conservatives feign concern over eugenics when it’s supposedly practiced by those on the opposite side of the spectrum? Not surprisingly, another Fox News host chimed in with her thoughts about a recent recommendation from the … (More…)
Yet another study proves women are interested in sex
Every six months or so, the research community rolls out studies pertaining to women that often debunk the long held beliefs that women aren’t sexual beings. The latest study to contradict longstanding societal impressions was released last week: At least … (More…)
Is an opinion ever just an opinion?
I began to seriously ponder this question after a debate I had with a friend on a political issue (I can’t remember what it was). I vividly remember this person adamantly hiding behind the “well, it’s just an opinion” retort … (More…)
California governor signs bill that requires inclusion of GLBT Americans in lessons
H/T to Shakesville for this post. California Governor Jerry Brown on Thursday signed legislation that would require schools to teach the accomplishment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in American history lessons. “History should be honest,’’ Brown said. “This bill … (More…)
