Police: Phylicia Barnes murdered

Autopsy results released by Maryland State Police indicated Phylicia Barnes was murdered, according to an ABC news story.

An autopsy conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Maryland determined her death to be a homicide. Police say they know the cause of death, but are not releasing the information for now because it is an ongoing investigation. “To release a cause of death at this time could jeopardize the investigation by revealing information known only to the person or persons responsible for her death,” Maryland State Police said in a statement. “The cause of death will be made public at an appropriate time in the future.” Greg Shipley, spokesman for the Maryland State Police, told ABC News there are no suspects in the case, and the investigation is continuing. “If they get some suspects, they want to be able to talk to them about this, and say it hasn’t been covered by the media so only they would know the details,” Shipley said.

Meanwhile, a private funeral has been set for Saturday at Springfield Baptist Church in Conyers, Ga., according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The service can be viewed online at the church’s website at www.sbclive.org. The AJC article also points out a memorial service will be held May 14 at Mount Pleasant Church in Baltimore.

I am at a loss for words right now, to be honest. This entire situation is just heartbreaking, confusing and plain senseless. I really hope someone will come forward with some information so this girl’s family can get some form of closure.
