>Indiana GOP Rep: Women will claim rape or incest to get abortions

>Women will make up claims of rape and incest just to get abortions.

That’s according to Indiana State Representative Eric Turner, a Republican who introduced a bill that would make abortions after 20 weeks illegal. His bill would also prevent insurance companies from covering abortions under the new federal health care law. The Indiana House at the time Turner stuck his foot in his mouth was debating an amendment introduced by Democratic State Rep. Gail Riecken that would create exemptions in Turner’s bill for victims of rape, incest or when the life of the mother is at risk. The amendment failed to get enough votes to pass.

By watching the video, you can get a feeling that Turner was about to utter an offensive remark. He even knew his comments would be inflammatory, yet the bastard decided to proceed with them anyway.

I get so sick and tired of woman-hating men, usually white and Republican, making incendiary claims about women, our reproductive rights and our sexuality. The idea that this representative would have the balls to stand on the House floor, speak his degrading and ignorant comments into public record and have the audacity to want the public to accept his comments as truth is just mind boggling. These comments are yet another slap in the face to those who have had the unfortunate opportunity to suffer a rape or an incestuous sex act.
I am so sick of pro-rape culture politicians restricting access to a woman’s right to choose based on their faulty, misguided beliefs about our sexuality and rape. It’s time women stop electing pro-rape culture, anti-choice politicians and indeed perform litmus tests on candidates to see where they stand on rape, abortion rights and a woman’s right to adequate reproductive health services.
I commend Democratic state Rep. Linda Lawson, who said she worked in a local police department’s sex crimes unit for six years, for rebuking Turner’s anti-woman, pro rape culture stance. These victims, she said, “don’t make it up.”
