I do think Barbara Walters has an interesting point. I think the larger issue at hand is not about Paula Deen, but about how decadence is everything ranging from food and behavior is applauded in our country and passed down onto our children as acceptable behavior.
I’m sure we’ve all seen Paula Deen’s treats and they are far from nutritious. And I’m sure not many people would pass up a sample–or two or three helpings–of her offerings.
What do you think of Walters’ claims? Does Deen have a social responsibility to curtail her treats in recognition that poor eating habits contribute to childhood obesity? Or do parents have a responsibility to correct eating habits on their own? Do you think Walter’s assessment is an indictment of American (read: Western) culture’s acceptance of flaunting exorbitant behavior?
