>I can’t believe any arm of the government would allow this type of racial hostility.
A group of black Philadelphia police officers filed a federal lawsuit Thursday against their department, alleging an online forum geared toward city police is “infested with racist, white supremacist and anti-African-American content.”
The suit alleges white officers post on and moderate the privately operated site, Domelights.com, both on and off the job.
Domelights’ users “often joke about the racially offensive commentary on the site … or will mention them in front of black police officers,” thus creating “a racially hostile work environment,” according to lawyers for the all-black Guardian Civic League, the lead plaintiff in the suit.
Some of the comments found on the website:
“In urban areas, it seems [African-Americans] living on welfare in paid for housing is ingrained in their culture as well as fighting. … Kids, along with adults can’t speak proper English or spell at a 3rd grade level, but they can sing among “theyselves” the lyrics to a rap song.”
“She is a classic example of that exact non tax paying, no car insurance driving, bad weave wearing, all the whitey’s are racist black women.”
Is it just me or is it the sign of the times? As we all know, this comes on the heels of the privately-ran swim club that was accused of racial discrimination; a charge in which the owner denied (but was on camera saying that the pool’s “complexion” and “atmosphere” had changed when the minority children showed up).
It seems like this type of behavior has become more prevalent since Obama became president. Or maybe I’m just being a typical overly-sensitive “angry black woman” who makes everything racial.
I think not…
I will use these so-called Tea Party protests that have been taking the country by storm. The Huffington Post put together their 10 most offensive signs they saw at a Chicago Tax Day Tea Party rally. I must say that this outpouring of conservative anger, hostility and resentment, combined with latent feelings of racism/sexism/homophobia, has created a new form of ideology that’s threatening to take over the Republican Party.
There have already been infiltrations of this type of ideology in the GOP–just look at the conduct of Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s most fervent opponents: Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Pat Buchanan, etc. Even the patronizing comments from Senators Jeff Sessions of Alabama (who we all know has a “history) and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina are emmersed in the indoctrination those on the far right are attempting to spread.
During Obama’s campaign, there were some who worried that someone would possibly try and hurt him if he became president. I must say that the way things are turning in this country, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if any plots to disrupt our government’s way of operating are discovered.
