>I know a few of you have already lost interest in what I’m about to say by reading the title of this blog. However, just hear me out.
As a (black) woman, I have become disgusted at how women, particularly women of color, have been reduced to mere sex objects by our culture. I have become annoyed at the rise of female, chauvinists pigs in our society by the mediums of MTV, VH1 and BET. This elevation of the raunchy culture has corrupted the minds of young women into thinking that empowerment can be gained from subjecting oneself to sexual abuse (groping, etc.)
This new phenomenon has led me to call for a new feminist movement; a movement that will allow women to take back our bodies and sense of self from the public. This will be a movement which will focus on changing the perception of women as available objects to men. This will be a movement which will focus on eliminating the systematic degradation of women, particularly women of color, from the media.
This new feminist movement will specifically focus on at-risk women, whether they are white, black, Hispanic, Asian, American Indian, etc. As apart of this movement, we will not let race, color, sexual orientation, national origin or religion hinder our cause, which doomed the feminist movement of the 60s and 70s. This movement will consist of like-minded women (and men, if they care to join) who have one goal: to take our bodies off the auction block.
What do you think of this proposed movement? Will you join me?
