>As I began browsing a forum I regularly visit (I won’t give out its name to protect its identity), I came across a post that troubled me for many reasons.

One phrase struck me as “odd,” but not unusual:

The facts are these. The democratic candidates, Clinton and B. Hussein Obama, are both Marxists. Look back a little and they both fit the bill.

Marxists? Really? Marxists????

It seems that political discussion nowadays has degenerated into diatribes about how radical or reactionary one side of the spectrum is. However, the attacks seem to be more prominent on the right. Due to the rise and popularity of talk radio and conservative commentators during the 1990s, labeling anything and anyone left of center in U.S. politics has become the norm for those whose views are to the right of the political spectrum.

Hillary Clinton, who I hardly view as ‘liberal,’ is viewed as a tax-and-spend socialist whose seeking to institute socialized medicine. Barack Obama is constantly slammed as a starry-eyed idealist, trying to hide his Muslim background.

Conservative propagandists have been successful at painting Democrats as lovers of big government (read: socialists), thus forcing post-1988 Democratic candidates for president to modify their philosophy in public. This reactionary machine also propelled Democrats (who were tired of losing elections to Reagan clones in Congress) to create the Democratic Leadership Council, an organization made up of moderate Democrats, such as President Clinton, who were seeking to shed their party’s liberal skin perpetuated by the likes of Sen. Edward Kennedy and Walter Mondale.

Of course, this revamping of the Democratic Party was successful in some respects: Clinton was elected twice and the Democrats regained seats in Congress after the 1994 Republican “Revolution” led by Georgia Congressman Newt Gingrich.

However, this Democratic comeback has not been successful in turning the tide against propagandists who continue to rail against left of center ideas.

The likes of Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly and Ann Coulter are continuing a systematic campaign to drive a wedge between the red and the blue states; between liberal and conservative; between Christians and non-Christians.

I’m only assuming that these attacks will be taken to the next level if either Sen. Clinton or Sen. Obama gets the nomination. I’m assuming those who share the ideologies of the personalities mentioned above will do all they can to prevent this country from going into a so-called inevitable socialist state if a Democrat is elected.

Like they tell us tree-hugging, latte-sipping, homosexual atheists, either love this country or leave. I know a kingdom in the Middle East that would love to employ right-of-center propaganda machines.
